The Word Liberal

Ok, so is anyone else out there sick and tired of the word Progressive as substitute for the word Liberal. I am a Liberal. I am a Bleeding ASS Liberal. I am not a fucking progressive. We have allowed the right wing media ( and yes, it is right wing) to attach this negative connotation to the word Liberal and instead of deciding to take the word, own it, and turn it against them by embracing it even more we go and get a new word. This Fucking frustrates ME.

My minor is in Linguistics and Language so I know a bit about the subject of vocabulary. The word choices that people make determine many things that you may not even think about. By finding a new word to define ourselves as we have given the Republicans power. They can use the term against us and know that it hurts us. This also further scatters the Dems because now we cannot even agree on basic terminology such as the words used to define who we are. Is that really what we want to be doing right now? Seems really fucking stupid to me.

Group Think

So I am now over my depression about the election and I have worked through my grief processes like a good little girl. So, then I decided to be really novel and go out to see what I can do to help because it looks like the Dems are in a world of fucking hurt right now, and I decided that I would try to be part of the solution. First off...I do not do well with groups. I have been in them in the past and lets just say that I don't tend to play well with others all of the time. (I am an ex sorority girl and we will leave that for another time when I have mountains of time for explanation of that debacle.)

I went with ETP to a Young Dems meeting in our county. I am not sure if you can really call it a meeting because it was two guys and us there. They told us that sometimes they get a lot of people at their meetings, like about 12! Anyway, this is the fundamental problem with the Dems. They can't even show up to their own fucking meetings. No wonder why they cannot run effective campaigns or get their message out or even build organizations. No one shows up! If this were a republican meeting that I was attending then people would have been there 1/2 an hour early and they would have accomplished something! The Dems seemed surprised that we had come and that I had found them on the internet. Oh the other weird thing was that their were two people in the meeting room who were fighting about inconsequential bullshit that you probably don't want to discuss in that manner in front of new people because you might fucking scare them off. Do people think anymore?

I was frustrated, but I am not going to give up just yet. I know how the republicans organize and how they get shit done on some levels. The dems have a long fucking way to go before they will have their shit together. Anyway, we shall see how this foray into group activity goes.
