What is Wrong With Education

I work in a University and I have a co worker who has a daughter that attends school here. She was talking to her mom about the test that she took and she got a failing grade on the test. The mother was upset and asked her if the professor was going to redo the test or change the curve or something to make it so that the grade ended up being a passing grade. The daughter said that the professor was not going to do that. He would only allow people to retake the test and average the scores. She was fine with the test score because she said that the test was hard and she needed to do better.

What is wrong when the parent wants to find the easy way out and the child is the one that realizes they did not do well and should try harder. Hello people, the easy way out is not the right way and sometimes you need to realize that you just didn't do well and suck it up!

Religious Ramblings

So we booked the tickets for the trip to Kansas for a family wedding. This should be lots of fun considering it is with part of my family that is overly religious and I am overly not religious. This is also one of the reasons that we do not fit in well here in the south. In my experience people lose perspective and objectivity when their lives become clouded by a man made religion. Evidence of this is abundant if you just look at the headlines in our news today. I really feel that people need to be more tolerant and if they are going to believe in a religion they should not force it on others and yes this includes prayer in school and other things that some consider harmless. Our nation was founded on Freedom of Religion and our fore fathers were very leery of any state and religion mingling. They saw what happened in England and how their views were persecuted and did not want to see that happen again. Re read you history books and find some compassion people or this wonderful country is not going to be so wonderful anymore.

College Football Hell

Working for a University that thinks they are the shit is not fun during Football season. Everyone here is gaga for th eteam and they think that the world revolves around them. People get super excitied about the games and they plan thier life around the football games. They watch everything they can about the players. Hell they even go to media days for the players....this si a crap school with no media around. Who the hell cares. Now from this post you might gather that I like dislike football but that is far from the truth. I love football but it has its place. I do not obsess over players and call them my little pumpkins like some do where I work. I guess this is what happens when you have nothing going on in a town. This is a sad state of affairs down here. It is no better with the high school football scene down here. I just wish I was back in a place where people had more variety in thier lives, conversations, and events that they participate in.
